Paintings of Kainuu
The Paintings of Kainuu exhibition consists of wax tempera and gold leaf paintings created over the last two years.
The subjects are based on the nature of Kainuu during the different seasons. They mainly originate from Sotkamo, the forests close to the village of Saviaho and the yard and garden of Piimäpuro farm. Also Kajaani has heavenly colours. The nature of Kainuu provides a never-ending palette of colours, where the lichens and mosses alone could continually be subjects for colour paintings.
Beeswax enables oil colours to be used in thick, partly glowing layers. The gold leaf shines or is drowned under colours, acting as one shade of light.
There really is gold in the sky above Kainuu.
